When the Audi A7 first came out, it was a pretty unique design. It still is, but many other cars have adopted the same general shape for their greenhouses, particularly the rear quarter window on the C-pillar. Whether they’re directly copying the A7 or not, I don’t know. But they’ve all got the same quarter window.

“it was a pretty unique design”
...that rode the coattails of the CLS just like the 6 Gran Coupe did :3

It’s a pain cleaning these damn tiny windows.
Thankfully the next car won’t have them. 2015 Skoda Superb (out in september).

It’s basically just setting a quarter window like that on the Chrysler Crossfire *into* the Hofmeister kink. So many cars already had a bit of the kink that adopting this is relatively easy - and possibly a natural extension of a swept roof profile. It’s about the only way to have a strong C-pillar that’s also swept and has any amount of visibility at all - I don’t know that copying the A7 in that is even a *choice*, so much.

So, once BMW and Audi both came out with stunning 4-door coupes to match the CLS, Mercedes decided to differentiate themselves by making the CLS hideous! AHA! Bet you didn’t see that coming!

I’m sorry but.... that fusion window has been around long before the A7.... look at this 2008 Mondeo. Sorry if I come off rude I am just tired of the blah blah (insert new car) looks like a ripoff of (insert some other car) especially when people aren’t versed in the design of said cars. It’s the same thing with “THE FUSION TOTALLY LOOKS LIKE AN ASTON ZOMG”

Why the crap did they put the Hofmeister kink and quarter window *on the door*? That’s totally insane.I’m sure the larger door is a bonus for some things, but it’s not of itself a fix to the weird proportions and can’t be that great for body strength.

So the CLS has one.. but it’s incorporated into the door? porque

I...have mixed feelings about that. I do not envy the poor designer that had to follow up Michael Fink’s gorgeous vehicle, but at the same time the new one looks way better in person than it does in photos.

Totally agree. First gen was so much better looking.

Yes it has been around on cars before the A7, but since here in ‘Murrica we didn’t get that particular Mondeo, I associate the shape with the A7.

Its rear doors look familiar though.

Typically that’s done so the window can retract fully into the door. Notice how the separator between the main and quarter windows lines up about with where the wheel arch starts.

I like the kink. It works on this and the Octavia really well.
The rear quarter window has been on the rear door for some time now.

I like it. I don’t like the tiny rear quarter windows or the faux black plastic trim that finishes off the rear side window appearance purely for aesthetic reasons alone.

Oh ok now in see it. Because the door is so narrow there at the end the glass would be wider than the door if pulled straight down. Makes sense now.

I’m from the land of the free and the brave too. I get what you are saying though, that sloping rear roofline and quarter window has made its way into evvverything now.

Yeah see it started for me with the A7 and Fusion. The A7 had been out for a bit, and then this current Fusion came out. They started popping up all over the place, I’d see one from the side and think “oh look an A7” and then realize it was yet another Fusion.

Even Audi have replicated it!
This isn’t an A7 despite appearances...

Agreed, in person the most recent gen looks awesome. The one you posted is before the most recent facelift which brings a little more cohesion at least in person anyway.

Yeah, but the A5 Sportback came out one year before the A7.
So, theoretically, they’re all copying the A5 (if that’s the case).

Yea, that roofline is everywhere. It will be played out and some other new trend will start. But quarter window in the C-pillar to create a continuous looking sheet of glass? That’s nothing new. And everyone rolled with it back in the day too.

There’s only so much you can do with a window shape. It’s got like 4 sides max, but has to have at least 3.
